Chocolate, Oranges, and Season Packages

Next week will be the Orange County premiere of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, CA. I’ve got my golden ticket ready for opening night, May 28. Well, it’s actually white and orange with a few other colors. There’s no gold on this thing at all.

It won’t just be a normal opening night either. SCFTA will be hosting an event in the lobby called “Kids Night on Broadway.” When you buy one adult ticket at full price, you’ll get one child’s ticket FREE. Use code OOMPA when purchasing. At the time of this writing, there are only 40 seats left so I wish you good luck. Starting at 6pm, there will be fun activities for kids (hopefully for adults too) including coloring stations, crafts, activities, photo opportunities and more.

The musical is an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book of the same name and made its debut in 2013 in London’s West End. It was reworked for a Broadway production in 2017 and ended its nearly 9-month run in January 2018. This is also the last show in my Season Package. I didn’t purchase a bonus add-on this year. What a sweet way to end the season.

If you’re wondering, I did purchase another Broadway Season Package for next season. Tickets for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory can be purchased here.

Is Chicago’s Hamilton Coming to LA?

Chris De’Sean Lee, José Ramos, Wallace Smith, and Miguel Cervantes (Joan Marcus)

It has been revealed on Playbill that the Chicago production of Hamilton will be coming to a close after a 3-year run at the CIBC Theatre. Final performance is scheduled for January 5, 2020.

When the Pantages Theatre announced their 2019-2020 Broadway Season earlier in the year, they showed us that Hamilton will be returning to the Pantages in March 2020. Will this Chicago company/production be coming to Los Angeles? I did tweet at them today. Still waiting for a reply. I might just be onto something.

I haven’t seen the Chicago production of Hamilton. I haven’t even been to Chicago. But from what I read on Twitter and Instagram from people who have seen it, some say that it is the greatest version of Hamilton that they have ever seen.
