Early in the year we got announcements for the 2019-2020 Season at the big southern California theatres. Now it’s time for the smaller local theatres and companies and it looks like Musical Theatre West in Long Beach, CA. (my hometown) is the first to announce their 2019-2020 season.
Welcome to the Renaissance… The season kicks off with Something Rotten in October. It’s a musical comedy set in 1595 about Nick and Nigel Bottom, two brothers who are struggling to find success in theatre. After seeing a soothsayer, they find out that musicals are the future of theatre and get working on the “first” musical. Their main antagonist is some playwright guy named William Shakespeare. You might have heard of him. I love Something Rotten. I saw it a few years ago at Segerstrom when it was on tour. It was the second show I ever saw.
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to summarize the rest of the shows because I’ve never seen them. So I’ll just simply list them. I do want to check out Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn though. I streamed a little bit of it on BroadwayHD.
